Geri trained as a painter and only discovered wood engraving several years later through the works of Thomas Bewick, the father of wood engraving. She is drawn to subjects such as natural forms, gardens and vernacular architecture, all of which provide endless challenges in rendering tone and texture through the tiny marks of the engraver’s tools. She is fascinated by the juxtaposition of the natural and the man-made and often chooses subjects which explore this. Her series ‘Uninvited Guests’ began by recording the appearances of various creatures co-existing in an old French farmhouse, and has now extended to the inhabitants of a Somerset barn.
